Bower's Shrike-thrush

I posted a photo of a Grey Shrike-thrush near Alice Springs on 29th Sep. This is its rainforest cousin, Bower's Shrike-thrush, in Mossman Gorge.

The gorge has been substantially developed for tourism since our last visit 16 years ago, but it's been done well, with an excellent cafe and shop by the car park and a shuttle bus to take you to the start of the trails, which have been improved with new bridges, walkways, steps and signs. Like most of the parks we've visited recently, the site is owned by the local indigenous community and the signs give the names of the trees in the local tongue and explain their traditional uses and the birds and animals that feed on them. It's also a beautiful place, with a clear river running through it, allowing swimming but despite being there on a Saturday there was peace and quiet away from the main swimming area.
