Red-necked Phalarope. Now I know this is a rubbish shot but it is a landmark for our holiday. In rain, wind, etc, we had gone off to try to see a rare Black Duck reported yesterday ..... but didn't. We stopped at a roadside puddle on the way back to look at some geese. Forget the geese G, how about a couple of Red-necked Phalarope just there? After going to a loch yesterday where they are usually seen, and seeing none, it was extra special to find a pair all on our my own! Same as the Red-backed Shrike of Monday. G needs me!! Apart from the fact that he can't cook and is missing the dishwasher.

The sad part is that last night we met a minibus of German birders who had been at the Black Duck loch when it had flown in but weren't sure what it was. They described it as a black duck with white wing patches. We hope we come across them again so we can tell them it really was a Black Duck!
