Providence [M] ill

On April 16th last year I brought you a picture of Providence Mill. To quote my final sentence: "If the Bradford pattern is to be followed, it's probably next in line for a mysterious fire."

Unfortunately, on Friday last week, that prediction was realised, and true to form a hurried demolition follows.

The vacant lot in the foreground is the cleared site of Thompson's Mill, which I blipped when that too burned down and was then demolished.

Even this image shows that it is possible to find productive use for these significant parts of Bradford's heritage; the restored and converted mills to the right are a mix of apartments and light commercial.

The City is showing a distinct lack of providence regarding these mills.
