Mackintosh Fireplace Detail

As I was attending a meeting at the House for an Art Lover this afternoon I managed to take a few photographs in the Dining Room.

The house was built in Glasgow between 1989-96, based on the 1901 porfolio designs created by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife, Margaret. They entered a competition to design a 'House for an Art Lover', set by a German design magazine, Deutsche Kunnst.

This is a detail of the beautiful baronial style fireplace and stencil decoration. I focused on the carving of the heart with the stencilled rose motif above the fireplace.

The stencilliing in the Dining Room was applied by Elisabeth Viguie using traditional methods.
