Beauty

There is a special kind of beauty here on the edge of Newton Abbot. Underneath this bridge, out of sight , a heron was fishing. Rusty old railway bridges cross over sluggish murky waters, where you can find supermarket trolleys in the glistening tidal mud, and graffiti adorning and obscuring the information boards about wildlife. It is here though that we always find kingfishers. Starting at the Passage House Inn with a coffee we walked towards the Stover Canal and saw kingfishers in four separate locations, as well as rats. The bird count was nearly 30, and the bird of the day, suitably for autumn, was a jay, of which there were several, living up to their collective name, a band, a scold, or a party. It was a lovely day but much cooler, and gloves were worn.
