Beyond the Little Black Dress, Museum

J, P and I very much enjoyed "Beyond the Little Black Dress" exhibition at the National Museum for Scotland.

There are 60 garments on show. The first dress on display is the 1926 'little black dress' by Coco Chanel. They also had the famous 1966 Le Smoking tuxedo suit for women by Yves Saint Laurent.  One of my favourites from the exhibition is this 1951 cocktail dress by Dior in the blip photo.

Before the 1920s, wearing black was reserved for mourning and the fashion was tight corseted dresses. All of this changed in 1926 when Vogue magazine cover showed a short simple black dress by Chanel.  It quickly became one of the most important and influential garments.

I popped along to see M in the afternoon who is doing remarkably well with her broken wrists. There was a moment of some hilarity when we greeted each other in matching slings!
