Lathyrus Odoratus

Darter

More heavy rain overnight and this morning but, in some weak sunshine this afternoon, I spotted a male Common Darter resting on the back garden fence. Like a long-abandoned sports car, his fiery orange-red abdomen has dulled with age while the once bright yellow 'go-faster' stripes on his thorax are barely visible. I was able to get really close before he would fly off, only to return to the same spot moments later.
