Trixie's Adventures

Soggy doggies

Yesterday we drove from St Ives in Cornwall to Carsington in North Derbyshire to stay overnight with Ann's sister Sue and Alfie, the Beardie.

Today we had a plan.................. The plan was.................. drive to Ann's sister, Jill's, in the North Yorkshire Dales and stay overnight with her before heading to Edinburgh tomorrow. Best laid plans and all that............ We woke up in the middle of the night and it was pouring with rain. It's been pouring with rain all day. It's now 6.45pm and it's still pouring with rain.

When myself and Alfie, the Beardie, went out for our morning walk the roads were already starting to get flooded and Ann had to wear her wellies because there were loads of deep puddles. Sue said that the roads around the village often got flooded. Apart from that we'd have to drive on the M1 in severe weather conditions so Ann decided that the sensible thing to do; was not drive anywhere. So we didn't!

I've spent the whole day with Alfie. Yay!  Most of the time we've just been snoozing, well us doggies have.  Ann's been writing her book and Sue's been cooking but this afternoon for our walk we went to one of the nearby roads to see how badly flooded it was. It was very badly flooded (have put a couple of photos in extras). The photo that looks like a river was actually the road!  There were at least five cars abandoned in the flood water and loads of others that we saw got as far as the flooded road and then had to turn around. If you have a look at the white car in the extra photo you will see that it has it's window open. We're assuming that's because the electrics got water logged so wouldn't work. And although we didn't see any owners of the abandoned cars, we're guessing that they just had to get out of their cars and paddle to dry land. Not quite sure what will happen to them now, or even where the owners of the cars are. The trouble with where the flood is..................... there's no mobile network so a lot of people (with wet feet) will have had to wander quite a distance to get help.

Ann says she will take us there for our morning walk tomorrow to see if the water has subsided and to see if the cars are still there. We're hoping to drive back to Edinburgh tomorrow but who knows? At the moment the rain isn't showing any signs of stopping.

................Perhaps we will be stuck here for 40 days and 40 nights. Lol!
