The Priest’s House, Sissinghurst Castle

We were very fortunate with the weather in Kent today. A cloudy, quite threatening morning dissolved into a fine, sunny and warm afternoon. Very fortunate given the destruction and downpours in the Midlands, North and Scotland. These intense events are happening with greater regularity. It’ll be our turn soon enough.

A very informative afternoon at the Sissinghurst vegetable garden where a group of allotment holders interested in “no dig” gardening were given a tour and talk by the head gardener. The extra shows just part of the two acre garden and rather dramatic skies.

The garden is now certified as organic and provides much of the produce used in the cafe. It certainly was a delight to see the garden, the quality of the produce and to learn how to do no dig. Half a dozen of us will be giving it a go next year.

We had a short walk after our visit through the fields and along the lanes near the Castle in the fine afternoon sunshine. The day was rounded off with a refreshing pint of Uber IPA at the Old Dairy Tap Room in Tenterden.
