One of the last things to go.

I think it was a probably an old tradition that when the man of the house died, his cap was left hanging in the hall so that if people called, they wouldn't think that the woman was alone but that there was still a man in the house. Anyway, since Dad died nearly seven years ago, his cap has stayed on the peg in the hall. I think it gave some comfort to Mum. Soon, the cap will be one of the last things to leave the house.
