Season of mists

And mellow fruitfulness.

After a frosty start to the day early mist was followed by glorious sunshine - at Logie Steading we were surprised to see 3 Red Admirals basking in the warmth of a sunny wall and on some bright violas. Over a picnic lunch, eaten beside a hedge planted with crabapple, wild pear, native roses, sloe, rowan, bramble and elder we saw a soaring buzzard and a hen harrier. The fruits on the hedge attracted feasting fieldfares, blackbirds and mixed flocks of finches and tits.

An extraordinary late autumn day of sunshine, birds, and colourful trees.
