Headland

Menorca Day 7

For our last full day on Menorca, a portrait of the Mediterranean Sea from the Cales Piques headland, with Mallorca visible on the horizon. And the last day was much like the others, just with the added flavour of it being the last of everything: last go in the pool, last meal out and last chance to wander around the ravines and headland looking for butterflies.

This is a good point to recap my Menorcan butterfly sightings:

1. Papilio machaon, Swallowtail.
2. Colias crocea, Clouded Yellow. (Plenty seen, but none photographed.)
3. Gonepteryx cleopatra, Cleopatra.
4. Pieris brassicae, Large White. (plenty seen, but like the Clouded Yellows, always on a mission.)
5. Pieris rapae, Small White.
6. Pontia daplidice, Bath White.
7. Maniola jurtina, Meadow Brown.
8. Pararge aegeria ssp. aegeria, Speckled Wood.
9a. Lasiommata megera, Wall.
9b. Lasiommata megera ssp. paramegera, Wall subspecies.
10. Vanessa cardui, Painted Lady.
11. Polyommatus icarus, Common Blue.

Not a bad list considering I didn't wander more than half a mile from the hotel, be that on the rocky headland, in the green gorges or down at the beach.

Time to get back to the familiar sights of home.
