Last morning in Ushuaia, back to Buenos Aires

What a surprise to have a last wander in Ushuaia yesterday morning, seeing as how our flight to BA was delayed. In Ushuaia we could put a stamp of the southernmost city in the world in our passport, an opportunity not to be missed! There was a variety of stamps and I chose the lighthouse in the Begal Channel. Extra no. 4 is an Ushuaia street and as you can see it has some topography, and more than just this mountain to see on a clear day.

Then to the hotel in BA by 5pm. If you thought the itinerary sounded packed up till then...! First we went for a dinner of the best empanadas I've had so far in a pulperia (first extra), a nineteenth century (very) general store whose clientele were mainly young immigrant men working as gauchos. I was so happy to see that this one was in near authentic condition - still the rough brick interiors and bars protecting the bar area from frequent fights. So all those westerns we saw as kids were true! First extra is the exterior, second is some art showing a gaucho and the third is of the bar area with the original iron bars.

Then we went off for our tango lesson. The fifth shows our teachers who were really good at it, unlike us. All a bit hilarious but I was surprised at how quickly we got the hang of the basics, the ladies doing the 'figure of eight' in no time.

By then it was 10pm but in Buenos Aires the night was young so we had to go to a milonga, a local tradition/nightclub which is all about tango dancing, where students and teachers practise their moves, or anyone can turn up for a good time. We remained seated while we watched the locals get it on. Some were really good while others appeared to be doing it for the first time and like us soon got the hang of it. A rule of the milonga is no photos, as some people go there secretly.

I'm sure you'll pardon me for not doing this blip at midnight. Today is our last activity - a tour of the city. Not too strenuous I hope but you never know.

Enjoy your weekend.
