East Takaka Church

Built by some of the earliest settlers, the first service was held in the East Takaka Church in November 1868. It is one of the oldest churches in Golden Bay and is a Category 1 Historic Place, being in the Gothic Revival style.  It lies in the Takaka Valley with a background of forested hills, as seen in the extra image.

The church and cemetery are very well maintained and one can spend a lot of time browsing the headstones, giving glimpses of life in the valley.
