In previous years he's requested complicated costumes requiring a degree of fitting and fabrication, but this one (once settled upon, only a few weeks ago) was mostly just items from a normal wardrobe along with my unused bicycle sunglasses and my DIY/gardening kneepads as spaulders.
Earlier, the other one had been successfully sent off for a Scout camp and had been persuaded into my old walking boots, seeing as it had been and would be constantly raining. He seems to misremember walking boots as being heavy and clumpy, presumably from something he wore when very small, whereas he now has a bit more weight and foot-strength to impose upon footwear.
