PS ? it's the Comet

Returned to my home town of Port Glasgow today. Not a lot of time to take a picture and there isn't much left of interest anyway after all the shipyards (except for one) closed down thirty odd year ago.

This is a replica of the paddle steamer (PS) Comet that was originally built in Port Glasgow and launched in 1812 and was the first commercially successful steamboat service in Europe. Its route was between Glasgow and Greenock on the River Clyde. The replica was built and launched in 1962 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its launch. Afterwards it spent many years lying in Lithgow's shipyard until they decided it deserved better and put it on display in the town.

Nowadays there isn't much that sails on the Clyde either 'up or doon the watter'.
