Morning Light

It was harder than ever to get out of bed this morning but we eventually succeeded in staggering into the kitchen for coffee. Our neighborhood flock of turkeys has swelled to more than twenty and they traversed our lawn and headed up the drainage swale while we watched them. they are silly birds with big bodies, skinny necks and tiny heads but they do stick together.

The weather was reasonably nice and my knee was reasonably cooperative so I decided to join John and Spike on the walk up to the meadow this morning. The dark limbs of the oak trees attracted my attention as I have a fascination with their twisty growing habit and they showed up even through a double exposure with an interesting rock formation on the other side of the trail. A couple of hawks carried on their screaming call and response across the meadow as Spike ran around in mad, joyous circles. I wondered if their conversation was about him.

Our neighboorhood  flock of

We wandered around Montgomery Village shopping center looking for a new French bakery called Pasqueline. We finally found it, not quite where we thought it was, just as we were about to give up, and it was worth persisting. It has a smaller offering of pastries, but a larger selection of soups, salads and panini and by the time we got there was clearly one of those places for ladies who lunch. We were still in coffee and pastry mode but will definitely go back there for lunch...perhaps a bowl of traditional soup a l'oinion . I put a picture of the wall painted with poppies in extras. Notice the round, as in spherical, pillows on the banquette. We couldn't resist poking them to see if they could possibly add any comfort to the wooden seating. My conclusion was that it was a good thing they had plenty of more traditional pillows. I put a picture in extras to counteract the rather colorless main image.

Once home again, John disappeared up to his lair on the upper terrace. I don't really know what he is doing up there but whatever it is makes him happy, so I leave him to it. He's a bit obsessed with the falling leaves,  and he got very excited when he discovered a long handled pincer device which he could use to pick leaves out of the bushes. He didn't really have an answer to my question...why?

The horrors in Gaza continue and I just have to wonder how two groups of people can hate each other so much that they would do this to each other?
