What's going on with this weather

Came home to try and get reviewers comments done on a paper we spent about a year writing - I so hope we can get this published!

Just missed the most torrential downpour - sky went that horrible grey-black colour where you know trouble is in store and then the heavens just let loose - made it indoors with minutes to spare!
