Village Day

I took my cakes down to the WI stall at Village Day and there was a buzz of preparation as all the village societies and charities set up their stalls for this annual event. Gazebos, balloons, flags fluttering in the strong breeze sum up summer Saturdays all over the land. The MC tested the microphone, the jazz band tuned up, all waiting for the parade to arrive. In the High Street small schoolchildren assembled ready for the the walk to the hall. The theme of Village Day this year was nursery rhymes. I walked back up the High Street and watched the excited little faces. The roads were lined with spectators. The village came alive for the day.
