Window to the world

Today we went to the Castle of Bornato (I).

In the Hart of Franciacorta the Castle of Bornato has frescoed rooms, a rich garden and secular trees. There are towers, a high wall and you can relive the atmosphere of cruel mediaeval battles an in the Villa there are splendor of the Italian Renaissance. A spectacular view of the plain of Lombardy to the South and the prealps to the North. The same view that Dante Alighieri, many times a visitor here, greatly appreciated.

History:
The central nucleus of the Castle is a Roman Fortress built to defend the Roman road Bergamo-Brescia; it is a square powerfull building with semicircular arches. One of the most famous mediaeval personage was Inverardo from Bornato who strengthened the fortress surrounding it with 300 meters of Battlements with towers and buttresses and a drawbridge, giving it the appearance which it still maintains. His grandson Ciambellino made it a meeting center of artist, writers and politicians in the atmosphere of the incoming Renaissance. The Castle was als theater of war between Venice and the Viscounts. In 1436 A. Marinengo the valorous soldiers from Brescia started his mission for defeat the Viscount arm, from Bornato. In 1562 in the Castle arrived the family Gandini, whose coat of arms adrons the entrance. They addes to the austere fortress, a new wing with a ballroom and other's room with 'affreschi'.

Architecture
It is a very rare example of Ranaissance Villa (XVI sec.) built inside a Mediaeval Castle (XIII sec.), thus giving at the same time elegance to the fortress and predominating position to the villa. Only a visit could better acquaint you with this remarkle Palazzo.

And here I discoverd a window in the wall asking my self how many people has looked trough it to the world. What did see in all that ages?

For me, a real window to the world!
