It's good to get out again

For some weeks I've been watching a male great spotted woodpecker coming to our feeders. Yesterday I saw a female, too, so I assume she has been brooding eggs which have now hatched.

Both parents make regular trips to the feeders, the male preferring the peanuts while the female has more eclectic tastes and flits between the suet and the nuts.

Hopefully in a couple of weeks they'll introduce their young to my feeders.

The poor male has been a very devoted mate and looks in much worse condition than the female.
