Wood Blewit - Lepista nuda

I was doing some pruning in the garden and suddenly noticed this purple shape on the ground. Thinking it must be a flowerhead that had broken off in the wind I discovered it was a mushroom of some kind.  It turns out it is a Wood Blewit which is edible - apparently some smart restaurants will cook with it and certainly in France.  It is a woodland mushroom rather than a Field Blewit which has a purply stem and no dramatic gill colour.
We don't live in a wood but the land was obviously woodland at one time as we still have woodland plants unexpectedly cropping up in the garden.

Another warm and sunny day which makes a change from the recent weather!
