Killdeer and Chick

This killdeer was in momma-mode! When I saw her and stopped to take her picture, she sent out the alarm call. Her chicks which were feeding in a shallow ditch immediately took to the higher grasses to hide and made their way to her where some hid under her.

I liked this picture because it showed the red eye on the killdeer. One of her chicks is behind her. My second choice was a better picture of just the chick.
