Life through the lens...

By ValC

The good old days.

I went to Cleckheaton this morning but forgot to take any photo for Mono Monday.
So this is an old photo taken I think in 1890s.
and turned into a High Key shot for today’s challenge.

Cleckheaton Town Hall opened in 1892.
Built as a memorial of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. The Town Hall
provided Cleckheaton with a much needed public hall total cost of the building £13000 being raised by public subscription and The Local Board.

It has always been the centre of the town being used by many clubs etc and for local concerts and shows.
Spen Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society used to perform 2 shows a year as well as a Christmas concert.

Part of the building was closed in 2022 to enable repairs to take place to the ceiling above the stage. ( never started)
This meant that the very popular Folk Festival had to be cancelled in 2022 and 2023.

Now the whole of the building is going to be closed.as part of Kirklees Council cuts.
A petition has been started but I don’t hold out much hope.

Thank you for all your kind comments hearts and stars for yesterday’s autumn photo.
