The pavement is most often narrow and not easy to pass by from, certainly not with a pram or wheelchair... and that's why most people walk on streets where the traffic rolls too.
In Chania's city centre more and more streets are refurbished and forbidden for motorised traffic, the pavements renewed and all for the benefit of the pedestrian, tourists and locals.
Perhaps the refurbishing will expand onto all streets of the city?! I suppose that will take at the least 50 more years...
