November dreich

In which some wet reflections are the perfect subject for a daily blip.

But what I really want to talk about today is the traffic. It surprises me.

It’s a cold, dark, rainy, miserable November Wednesday in Stockholm. And there is traffic in the bicycle lanes. It’s not the number of cyclists, but the volume. The traffic has a density to it. On a miserable Wednesday in November.

Stockholm’s bicycle infrastructure is improving year over year, but the cycling is increasing faster than the city can improve it. “If you build it, they will come”, in real life.

Ironically, the bicycle path on the left is practically empty as it’s mostly used by inbound commuters in the morning. But in the city… it’s not just cyclists. It is traffic.
