Perception

Today at the Getty, I wanted to honor American artist, Robert Irwin, who died on October 25th. He designed the beautiful Central Garden at the Getty Center, a place I have enjoyed immensely.
In my tours, I guide people through the zigzag path, and talk about the general design of this “sculpture in the form of a garden aspiring to be art,” that was created with water features, rocks chosen by Irwin at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, and plants and trees that he looked for in nurseries around California with the help of Jim Dugan, the person who brought in the garden expertise to the project.
Irwin said art is about perception, and about the sensory experience an installation can provide.
