Falkirk Wheel

We wended our way back to Edinburgh, again using the scenic route and stopping by the Falkirk Wheel and Linlithgow Palace.

The Wheel is undergoing maintenance until next March so the canal basin was drained and had workers going over it with what looked like metal detectors, as well as some disgruntled looking waterfowl.  It is still a magnificent structure and worth the detour.

We managed a quick hoof around the walls of Linlithgow Palace, built as a pleasure palace centuries ago and occupying a very nice spot. Another fountain like the one we saw at Holyrood was just at the entrance and I read later that it was the model for its cousin in Edinburgh. Not quite as OTT as that one though!

Back at the Edinburgh campsite tonight. It's a lot emptier than a couple of days ago.
