Go For Baroque

Today finds us in Würzburg, where we visited the enormous baroque palace of the Prince-Bishop.  Acres and acres of over-the-top gilt, stucco, frescoes, ormolu, and marble.  Quite dizzy-making!

We then journeyed on to the charming Medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, with its narrow cobbled streets, half-timbered buildings (many leaning this way and that), churches, and fortified walls.  The Christmas markets start up next week, and I was very grateful to have missed them, because already the streets were full of tourists -- even on a Sunday, when most of the shops were closed -- and I can't imagine how crowded it will be in a few days time!

Notice the enormous nest atop the tower in the second extra!  (I think it might be a stork's nest?)
