Stephen is waiting for a hip replacement. he is in a lot of pain and very lonely because he can't get out much: his flat is up a steep flight of stairs. I enjoy visiting him and, when I can, making him laugh. He throws his head back and laughs loudly.
This visit I asked if he had been reading. Yes, he said, I have been reading the bible. He reached over and pulled out this copy.
I laughed and said maybe he could do with a new one. No, he said, I like this one! He has another, he told me, but this is his favourite.
It certainly looks well read.
