Down Along the Canal

Always one of my favourite short walks, the stroll along the Tavistock Canal in West Devon is a great place to find calm and serenity. The trees beside the canal are mainly beech and are magnificent, particularly in Spring and Autumn. The water in the canal comes from the River Tavy and flows gently down hill and under an old railway viaduct before entering a long narrow tunnel. The reflections in the canal from the overhanging trees are best when the water is clear, but today the water from the river which feeds the canal was heavily discoloured after all the heavy rain.
