Leafy lane

Autumn is in full swing. I want to know what the net effect of decomposing leaves is for CO2 emmissions. Assuming it is still a net negative given they pull it from the air to start with and it doesn't all decompose back to the atmosphere again. Or maybe by the time the fungi and bacteria have belched and parped their way through it it does all float up again?
More dull thoughts tomorrow...
