Dorset Apple Cake

I was supposed to be going to Preston today with friends, but they were both unwell, so I made a cake instead. My choice of cake was based on me having a number of rotten apples to use. Actually I threw quite a few rotten apples away and just used the remaining bruised ones. I still have some that I think are undamaged, but I will find out when I go to use them.
