Love of Church

This is an Armenian church which is more than a 100 years-old on Akdamar
Island which is in the middle of Van Lake, in Turkey. Peoplemin Van say Van Sea instead of Lake as it is the largest lake in Turkey. The deepest depth is 400 meter!

Besides the history, it has a dramatic story. There is an Armenian girl
living on the island and her name is Tamara. And of course, there is a
Muslim boy not living on the island but the mainland. These two people are
smitten with. Every night the girl lights a fire so the boy swims from the
mainland to fire to visit his beautiful love. And then, the priest of the
church realizes it and warns the girl about Armenian-Muslim thing but she
doesn't give a hoot and continue to light a fire. One night cruel priest
lights a fire and puts it on a boat and untwists the boat. He swims and
swims and swims but never reaches the fire. At the end, he becomes tired and
is drowned.

First, people name Tamara to this island and then they say Ahtamara. Over
the years it has been changed and now the name of the island is Akdamar.
