secret garden

Dispatch from Kerry 4

Well I am actually home now - showered, the damp and muddy clothes thrown in the washing machine and a good sleep taken!
What a wild weekend in every sense but especially the weather where everything occurred except for a bit of calm! On our way home we arranged to rendezvous with Aoibheann, the organiser of the weekend, for an exclusive visit to some rock art. First we tried to find somewhere for a coffee - not easy on a Monday morning in November in Kerry but we rocked up at the rather large and posh Sneem hotel, first shedding our mud entrenched wellies and waterproof trousers! They were extremely welcoming and provided first class coffee, plus biscuits, and a marvellous view.

We then sallied forth to somewhere incredibly remote and scenic with valleys turned russet, little stone walls, yellow bottomed sheep and a huge amount of wind and lashing rain! Plus the occasional rainbow! We arrived somewhere in Derrynablaha which is renowned for its rock art and look - there is a concentric circle! At this point, we were trying hard to stand upright and the rain was stinging, when she suggested another place to visit - somewhere I really want to go -  but we reluctantly decided conditions were just too rough and promised to come back in the new year.

We stopped off in the French patisserie in Kenmare for a most welcome bowl of authentic French onion soup which really hit the spot.
And now I'm catching up! And thanks for the love for yesterday's windswept Derrynane. It features again in the first extra.
