60 Years Ago Today…

…one of those events occurred, when you remember exactly where you were when it happened…the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

I was in Typing class (a subject no longer taught), in Max Cameron Secondary (a school that no longer exists), in Powell River, BC (home of the world’s largest paper mill, now permanently closed), when the teacher, Mrs. Hobson, entered and announced that JFK had been shot. Nothing else.

We completed the rest of the morning in a zombie state. During lunch, the principal came over the PA and announced that the shot had been fatal and that afternoon classes had been cancelled. And this is in Canada! It really drove home, unnecessarily, the gravity of the event. History was changed in an instant, and we are left to ponder, ‘what if…’.
