Sea Nettle

Against my better judgement, which proved to be completely wrong, we went to the Monterey Aquarium.

Wow. I didn't know aquaria could be this good. Words like: wonder, awe, surely-not, it can't be and incredible tripped off our lips.

This was in the Jelly Fish section and is a Sea Nettle, Chrysaora fuscescens. It hunts its prey by trailing these long tentacles, covered with stinging cells, and when the tentacles touch tiny plankton, the stinging cells stick tight and paralyse their prey. From there, the prey is moved to the frilly mouth-arms and finally to the mouth, where the jelly eats its meal. Don't mess with the Sea Nettle.
