Bakewell pudding?

I should have travelled over to Mum's last night but I was too tired, so I got up early this morning and travelled with the rush hour traffic.

We then set off to Derbyshire for a little break. First stop was Sutton Scarsdale Hall, advertised by English Heritage as "one of England's finest baroque ruins". Unfortunately we discovered that the ruins are in ruins now and it looked a bit sorry for itself behind heras fencing. 

The weather wasn't great, very dull and overcast. We moved on to Tapton lock visitor centre. As we ate our picnic in the car the rain came down heavier. I had a quick look at the lock and decided it wasn't worth the effort. We decided to head to Bakewell and have an early afternoon tea, sampling the local delicacy. 

We found the "original Bakewell pudding shop", which also had a cafe. We climbed the stairs, looked at the menu and decided to leave because of the prices! Now, we were intrigued about the difference between Bakewell Tart and Bakewell Pudding. We looked in the shop below the tearoom and decided that a) the puddings didn't look appetising and b) they were still expensive. We found another bakery, had a brief conversation with the assistant, and bought one medium pudding to try at our cottage. 

We found our cottage on a farm at the top of the hill. They had very kindly left us a small Bakewell Pudding as a welcome gift! The two looked very different, as you can see from the extras. We sampled both and .... decided Bakewell can keep their puddings and we'll stick to tarts in the future!
