Colour & Light – The Legacy of Impressionism

Both hubby and I had a day off today! We did a day trip to Helsinki: we ran some errand, visited a dog park, had a dinner in the dog friendly restaurant Pontus. Finally we visited Art Museum Ateneum, where was an exhihition called Colour & Light.

The exhibition introduced Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist art from the period 1860–1916. The exhibition shows top names in international art side by side with artists from the heyday of Finnish Colourism,. In Finnish art, the shift towards a brighter palette led to new subject matter, as work and wild nature gave way to the comforts of middle-class life, parks, sunbathing, and nudity.

In the picture is a detail of Santeri Salokivi's painting Girls on the Shore (1916). I love feeling of summer and sunshine! The other extra photo is Claude Monet's painting Floating Ice on the Seine

Wonderful day!
