Vincent van Gogh in Drenthe

I went to the Drents museum in Assen to see an exhibition about the time Vincent van Gogh spent in Drenthe. He lived in a couple of places. He started out being very enthusiastic about the people who were so real to him and about the surroundings and solitude. All that he was enthusiastic about to begin with slowly turned into a disillusionment which led him to return to his parents in Nuenen in Brabant.

In the exhibition several themes like humans, housing, light and dark etc. In every theme several paintings by contemporaries of van Gogh that inspired him. Followed by paintings he made in that theme.

In the extra you see paintings of the peat industry. One by painter Sientje Mesdag, one by van Gogh.

Another very interesting exhibition.
