Fleshmarket Close

Not much time to explore today after morning work calls, and before heading back to the big smoke on the train. I was staying in the old town and these steps are “round the corner”

Edinburgh’s closes in the Old Town are named after either significant people who lived there, or the trades that used to take place on them. Fleshmarket Close was a butchers’ market. Apparently meat would be hung along the alley, allowing the blood to drip down the steep incline to drain down below.
