Cockling Corvids

Needless to say, energy levels are low today, but we both feel a bit of fresh air and exercise is necessary, so there’s a trip to West Shore.

The light is hideously dull, but I set off hunting for shots, hoping something will appeal.

I walk along the expanse of sand, photographing gulls reflected dully in the wet sand. As often, my attention is taken by the crows, their blackness standing out amongst the white and mottled fawns of adult and juvenile herring gulls.  The corvids are digging for cockles before flying off with their treasure to the boulders higher up the beach. Here they drop the shells from a height to break them open, retrieve them and guzzle on their contents.

So today’s blip is more of a ‘storyboard’ - the art of cockling corvids!
