Laporte Window

A trip to Hertfordshire today to see my daughter and a chance to visit St Albans Cathedral. I was particularly taken by Ninian Comper's First World War Memorial window which fills the Great West window but my blip has to be of the huge rose window in the north transept. This was designed by mathematician Lord Grimethorpe, each roundel having a different geometrical design. Originally it had plain glass but it was re-glazed in coloured glass to a 1989 design by Alan Younger to mark the centenary of the Laporte Chemical Company. Although the latter no longer exists this magnificent window lives on.
