My birthday cake

I'm usually pretty frugal with cooking so younger son didn't reveal the ingredients he'd used  for my birthday cake  (12 eggs, half a kilo each of ground hazel nuts, butter and sugar) until it was unveiled. Even with eight of us partaking (and, accidentally, the dog) there was plenty left for another time.

It's been a wonderful few days with the whole family here, multi-ethnic meals cooked and eaten, walks taken, mussels foraged and grandchildren taking centre stage, as it should be.
I am truly fortunate.

 Very different from my birthday  13 years ago although that occasion also involved chocolate cake - on a smaller scale.
