Indoor Blip: Benjolin in Hámmerschlag Slide Box

More esoteric in large

This is a Benjolin, designed by the extraordinary synth designer Rob Hordijk and hand-made by Derek Holzer ("Macumbista") in a rather worn "vintage" slide box; it is one of the weirdest synths that I've managed to procure, having bought a "pre-order" from someone who no longer wanted to wait so long to get their hands on one. Mine arrived today!

Derek Holzer is the only person that Rob Hordijk licensed to build and sell his designs (before he died in 2022), and Macumbista only builds them from time to time between research and teaching at Stockholm's Royal Institute of Technology.

Benjolins has two wide-range oscillators (one faster and one slower) and a filter, all interconnected via a chaos circuit ("Rungler") and/or patched using banana cables, and it can generate a wide range of sounds with varying degrees of controllability. Today it has sounded mostly like a mega-starling with far greater a vocal range (!), and capable of singing both faster and slower than any starling should. Can't wait to get my studio set-up again...

Others here (or right from Autumn leaves)
