Old and new

This is the view from our Hobart hotel as we left this morning. The Gas Works buildings were built from the mid-1800s, to produce gas and electricity from coal, which came by sea to the port nearby. Today, most of Tasmania’s power is hydro-electric, with some exported to the mainland by under-sea cable.

In the background is the Australian Government’s antarctic research vessel Nuyina

To the right, the building with light and dark blue decoration is Hobart’s main concert hall. We enjoyed a performance by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra during our visit.

Our flights today worked well, and we are now home in Lennox Head.
