Red cabbage layers

In addition to photographing my red cabbage, I had a day trip on the Riverboat Postman which delivers mail to communities along the Hawkesbury River. It took about an hour to get to the launch point by train and the trip took about three hours.

The extra photo is of Peat Island. Following some abandoned plans, in 1908 the government enabled the then Lunacy Department to establish a facility for people with mental health issues. It sounded like a grizzly place, especially in the early days. With advanced thinking on effective treatment, the facility was decommissioned in 2010.

Recently Peat Island was transferred to the Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council, whose members have plans for the site's renewal. The Island's traditional name is Kooroowall-Undi, meaning place of the bandicoots.

Thanks for hosting mono Monday Kd.
