Demonstration

This morning we dropped Euan at breakfast club a little earlier than usual so that we could join the demonstration organised by our daughter outside his nursery.  The nursery is on a narrow residential road which turns into a busy ratrun for commuters driving in to the City at times of drop off and pick up.  There is also a single file pinchpoint just behind where I was standing to blip which further exacerbates the traffic problems and frequently large lorries use this route too.  Yesterday, when we were walking along this stretch with Euan, two longloaders carrying steels came through here!  The traffic cones have been put out as an interim measure to keep parents and children safe on the pavement, but they occasionally get moved....

It was interesting to note the reactions of drivers: some slowed down and gave us the thumbs up; some shook their heads; others accelerated; one gave us the finger; many only had one had on the steering wheel passing by small children walking, scootering, cycling.  The majority of the cars contained just one person.  Compared to where we live, the public bus service is excellent and, with more cars left at home, would be even more efficient.  We are taking Euan to the pantomime in the city this afternoon and we have a choice of three buses within fifteen minutes.  I accept that some folks quite rightly have to use a car, as do we at times but.....

Euan is a little unsure about the pantomime.  He has been to the theatre before but this will be his first pantomime.  It's Jack in the Beanstalk and he's a bit worried about the giant, but we will see.  Having lunch with Mum beforehand will be a big plus, she is very good at encouraging him to try new things.  I will report back tomorrow.
