At the end of our garden is a small babbling brook - well actually a rather murky none flowing ditch, I think mainly for land drainage.

It's home to some ducks and some moorhens, and this year we spotted a moorhen nest hidden in one of the plants.

For a week or so one of the birds has been sitting on eggs in the nest and tonight for the first time we saw 4 chicks.

Shortly after I captured this picture through the waving leaves, two of the chicks set off for their first swim, following their dad who had been tempting them out of the nest with tasty bits of food
