Christmas Lights

To save money following last year’s energy crisis, our village has turned off all the streetlights overnight, except for those on the main road. Which means that Daftie and I have to take a torch with us to see our way around the pitch black backstreets when I rise early to start writing. The Christmas lights, however, burn all night long, even although there is no one there to see them. A lighting double standard that annoys me every morning.
